Class Descriptions

class style descriptions

All Yoga produces heat, detoxifies, strengthens, creates balance, boosts metabolism and replenishes your life force energy (prana) to create a sense of peace of mind. Yoga utilizes less oxygen to physically and mentally accomplish more.

Hatha means to unite, join or yoke. "Ha" means the Sun, and "tha" means the Moon. It is about uniting and accepting your True Self, all the light and all the dark. It is a willingness to be aware of all parts of ourselves, the full rainbow of sensation, perception, emotion and thought. To be in the flow is to look at whatever arises with freshness and freedom. It is to simply open our hearts with love to the present moment without clinging or pushing. It is the union of the Body, Mind & Spirit. Hatha is the foundation of all physical forms of yoga.

Hatha Flow is a slower, more mindful variation of vinyasa flow, with the same results!

Himalayan (Sri. Swami Rama) is a style of yoga based on the foundation of Pantanjali's Yoga Sutras as well as Raja Yoga's 8-limbed path. It is a more slow-flow form of yoga with a deep sense of compassion to guide you to release and let go within your Mind and Body to allow your Spirit to shine through.

Iyengar is a static form of yoga, utilizing props, with an intense focus on proper body alignment. Poses are held for longer periods of time to create a deep inner focus of strength and balance. Though you will do fewer poes per class than with other styles, your post-yoga ache will let you know you had a serious workout!

Vinyasa literally means "collection" or "arrangement." Taken from Ashtanga Yoga (Sri. Pattabhi Jois), it allows the teacher more flexibility and creativity with sequencing. Sun Salutations are the main focus with a dynamic linking of the body and breath. You will definitely get a vigorous workout! Hatha Flow is a slower variation of this style

Sequencing in the Himalayan tradition focuses on releasing stagnant energy through the chakras or energy centers to create clarity and balance, while Iyengar precision in alignment allows the student to find their "seat" within the poses to release down to the core of the body, mind and spirit!  Come Join Me!

Yoga 1
classes stress foundational poses that focus on alignment and breath. A great introduction for what yoga has to offer for the beginner or to bring back the basics for the continuing level student.

Yoga 1-2 classes continue to build on the poses, offering more variations to better challenge those present. A full range of poses will be introduced--standing, forward & backbending, twisting, balancing, inverting--Pranayama, mudra, bandha and imagery may be included.

Yoga 2 classes are for those seeking a more advanced practice no matter what level they are at. The idea is to deepen where we are at that moment. Pranayama, mudra, bandha and guided imagery all play an important focus of this class. Arm balancing, inversions, backbending variations are also offered. Minimum 6 months yoga experience suggested.

Alignment Yoga

Alignment is a kind of enlightenment and today you'll find out why. Proper alignment and the body mechanics that accompany it insure correct, safe, and elegant movement.  By definition, yoga postures feel good and reflect an art form of symmetry and freedom.   HathaYoga uses perfection through alignment in the postures to bring about illumination of the mind through discriminative self balancing.  The focus will be on creating a slow flow with a strong focus on body alignment to sweat, lengthen and strengthen.  Pranayama (breathwork), bandha (energy locks), mudra (energy seals) and guided imagery/visualization (bhavana/nidra) may play a part of each class.  Variations will be offered to both inspire and challenge those present and hands-on adjustments will give the student that “ah” (or maybe even “ah ha”!!!) feeling.  Props may be used to “greet you where you are at” to help experience the deep stillness within the poses.

Dosha Balancing
According to Ayurveda, the five fundamental elements that make up the universe--space (akasha), air (vayu), fire (agni), water (apu) and earth (prithvi)--also make up the human physiology.  Looking at the elements from the point of what they do in the physiology, rather than what they are, ayurveda describes three psychophysiological energies called doshas.  There are three doshas, called vata, Pitta and Kapha, and each is mainly a combination of two elements. Vata dosha is made up of space and air, Pitta dosha is a combination of fire and water. Kapha dosha is made up of water and earth.  For good health and well-being, the three doshas need to be in balance, otherwise ill health will manifest.
In this yoga class, you will learn a sequence of poses (asana), breathwork (pranayama), energy seals (mudras) and energy locks (bandhas) to bring about balance through use of the physical body (Hatha Yoga).  This will be an active class.  Each week will focus on one dosha (vata, pitta, or kapha).  Information will be shared as to what physical, mental or emotional imbalances can occur if that dosha is "out of whack."

Chakra Balancing is a customized class based around balancing the 7 main energy centers up and down the spine. Yoga techniques will be utilized specifically to release blockages to bring about relief from physical and/or emotional discomfort. Deep relaxation techniques (Nidra), visualization (Bhavana),  pranayama (breath work), mudra (hand gestures) and asana (posture work) all play a major role in this practice.

Corporate Yoga can be taught on-site or off-site. Call the studio to arrange a session for your employees. Give your employees the gift of health and the strength of knowledge and motivation to help keep them focused to better enhance their job performance! Minimum attendance required

Gentle Yoga/Restorative Yoga

classes are passive with longer holds and slower movement that allow your muscles to relax deep into the core of your being, mentally, physically and emotionally.  Most of the work is done on the floor with some standing, while all supported with props.  While utilizing props (blocks, blankets, bolsters, straps, walls, etc.) and bringing the floor up to “greet you where you are at,” an internal shift occurs.  The body and mind will be challenged to experience stillness through this support that releases deep into the connective tissues and mental chatter to break through old patterns, reduce stress and bring about a state of deep relaxation.  Restorative Yoga has been shown to reduce the effects of stress-related disease.
Beneficial to
those who always work hard or to those may have with limited mobility due to hormonal imbalance, anxiety & depression, respiratory & circulatory complaints, immune & digestive dysfunction or joint issues, to name a few.  It is for those times when you feel weak, fatigued or stressed from your daily activities. Restorative yoga has been shown to be especially beneficial for the times before, during and after major life events: death of a loved one, change of job or residence, marriage, divorce, major holidays, and vacations.
**This class is NOT SUITABLE for those who cannot kneel or be comfortably.
